About the artist
Crystal is a multidisciplinary artist based in Durham, NC; her artistic practice mainly incorporates illustration, printmaking, and textile art.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Crystal earned a Master in Nonprofit Management from the University of Pittsburgh before going on to live in Latin America for several years and build a robust career in the education and nonprofit sectors.
Her company, Bright Sunny Studio, began as a creative outlet for Crystal's excitement for exploring nature and new artistic practices. Her unique style is owed to her experiences in the many places she's lived and the fiercely creative women who came before her.

hand-printed art
discover the intricate craft of hand-printed art. from screen printing to block printing and cyanotype, each piece is unique and handmade.
upcycled textiles
slow fashion is here to stay. we've already produced enough textiles, now it's our responsibility to find a use for them, slowing demand and reducing waste.
nature propaganda
embrace all the the natural world has to offer through creations designed to inspire others to cherish and protect nature.
-
Printmaking lives at the intersection of history and reinvention. Bold, rhythmic, and tactile, it allows for the creation of original work that can be repeated — but never exactly the same.
-
Beyond paper, Bright Sunny Studio brings printmaking to textiles — creating wearable art and upcycled goods that break out of the frame and into everyday life.
-
Each piece is rooted in sustainable practices, a deep love for the natural world, and an ongoing journey of self-love and creative freedom.
In the US, we produce over 34 billion pounds of textile waste each year, causing global strain and damage to our environment and public health.
-
All of the clothes and accessories that are upcycled in the studio are sourced from NC thrift shops and reuse centers.
-
Reusing second-hand clothing and textiles allows us to reduce textile waste while creating one-of-a-kind pieces.
